Training Sites

Carters (flat water gates)

Our main training base in Tauranga is based on the Kopurererua Stream in Judea which we know as 'Carters'. This is accessed by parking in the Waikareao Foreshore Reserve (21 Takitimu Drive, Judea) and walking across the grass to put on and paddling up through the bridge.

Please do not park in the Carters carpark on Birch Avenue or the New Zealand Windows carpark on Koromiko Street as these are private.

For more information check out the map for each site.

Waimarino (flat water gates)

For those first getting started or when we want a bit more space we use the gates at Waimarino Adventure Park. This is accessed by parking in the Waimarino Adventure Park Carp Park (36 Taniwha Pl, Bethlehem) and walking down the stairs and heading to our shipping containers at the far end of the facility.

Please do not drive down to the container as this is private property.

For more information check out the map.

Kaituna River - Slalom Site

Our main white water training base is in Okere Falls and is based on the Kaituna River. This is accessed by parking in the carpark opposite Okere Falls Road just off State Highway 33.

Please try and park courteously and make sure not to block the gate at the top of the car park. If training outside of Club programmes please make sure to pull in any gates to the side of the river when finished.

For more information check out the map.

Kaituna River - Trout Pool

For those first introductions to white water where we want a nice open environment, we use a section downstream of Trout Pool. This is accessed by parking in the carpark at the bottom of Trout Pool Road and walking down the steps to the river.

Please try and park courteously as this is a busy car park with the rafting community.

For more information check out the map.

Kawerau

Our main race site is in Kawerau and is based on the Tarawera River. This is accessed by parking in the carpark in front of Firmin Lodge just off Waterhouse Street.

At this venue we have two separate courses:

Upper Course:

For the advanced Canoe Slalom paddler, the Upper Course offers a constant white-water environment to hone their skills. This course is only recommended for those with a solid white-water roll.

Lower Course

For those first introductions to white-water where we want a nice open environment, we use a section below the Upper Course. Accessed from Waterhouse Street.
