What is Canoe Slalom?
Canoe Slalom and Kayak Cross are exciting water sports! Athletes paddle through river courses with rapids and navigate around special gates or markers.

One - two terms of weekly training sessions ($150). Rolling sessions $20/session (optional) |
Two terms of weekly training sessions ($150 per term). 2 Additional training sessions leading up to AIMS Rolling sessions $20/session (optional) |
Package Details:
- Ideal starting age: Years 5-10 (but anyone can join!)
- All equipment provided: boats, paddles, lifejackets, and helmets
- Professional coaching with Irene or Ekain
- Learn to roll your kayak at Otumoetai Pool (Thursday evenings)
- Extra practice sessions available ($20 each)
AIMS games
The AIMS Games event is held on calm water at Lake McLaren (no rapids) for intermediate school-aged children (11-13). Our two-term package combined with learning how to roll prepares you fully for the September competition.
Some schools may be interested in running specific sessions for their school team if they have a suitable area of water near them.

What happens next?
After completing your beginner package, you'll earn your 'Paddle Passport' qualification and be ready for white water adventures!
We offer:
- Daily flat water sessions at Waimarino or Kopurererua Stream
- White water training at Kaituna River (transportation provided)
- Surf kayaking sessions on Saturdays (when conditions permit)
- Racing opportunities in Kawerau to test your skills
