Canoe Slalom BOP Prize Giving 2020
On Friday 26th June 2020, Canoe Slalom BOP hosted its annual prize giving night at the Waverley Rooms, Waimarino. With a large turnout, it was great to see the room full and everyone getting to know each other away from the river bank. As the weather as taken a turn for the worse, we couldn't take advantage of the BBQ's but that didn't stop us putting on a great spread with some marinated chicken, a wide spread of salads, pastas and desserts so let’s hope that everyone went home with a full stomach.
The prize giving event is an evening to celebrate the achievements of club members over the past 12 months. It also gives an opportunity to highlight some people who over the past year have gone above and beyond what is required. We would then like to acknowledge the following individuals:
Ann O’Connor –Many of you won’t know her by that name but Aunty Ann, over the past year she has generously given us the use of her back garden and front lawn on 13th Avenue as a pick up and drop off point for paddlers, boats and other gear they may have. Without this resource we would struggle to get to the Kaituna after school sessions during the week. Her continued generosity is much appreciated and we hope she enjoys her flowers.
Julie Harris – Central to the club is our Van and Trailers. These allow us to transport paddlers, boats and gear around the country. Making it easier for people to get involved in the sport and helping those in the sport progress further and further. With two vans and trailers it is a challenge to get somewhere to store these that is secure but also accessible when our coaches need it. We are ever grateful to Julie who has now for over a year allowed us to keep them on her property. Her continued support with this storage is much appreciated and we hope that a bottle of wine is just a small token of our appreciation.
Alongisde these individuals we would also like to thank those within the club that have volunteered to be part of our committees. Canoe Slalom BOP is the largest Canoe Slalom Club in NZ, we have an action packed calendar which wouldn't be possible without all the work you do in the background!!
